Down 2-0 early, the ’Fish scored two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game with Kennard Jones and Prentice Redman picking up RBIs. Luis Figueroa gave Bridgeport the lead by blasting a solo shot that cleared the left field wall—his first dinger of the season—in the bottom of the fourth to give the ’Fish a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Bluefish took a two-run advantage after James Simmons came all around from first to score on a two-out single by Figueroa—his second RBI of the contest.
After the Skeeters knotted the score with two runs in the top of the eighth on a two-run shot by former Bluefish star Steve Moss, the ’Fish reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the frame on a solo shot to deep left center by Simmons. The Skeeters, however, would not go down easily, knotting the game once more at 5-5 and sending the game into extras.
In the bottom of the 13th, Redman led off with a walk and advanced to third on a single by Tuesday night’s hero, Brock Peterson. Baez lofted a flyball to center, with Redman tagging and scoring the winning run. Figueroa finished the game with two RBIs, while Redman, Jones and Baez also drove in runs for the ’Fish.
Moss, a two-time All-Star with the Bluefish (2010 and 2011), had four hits for his new team and drove in four runs for the day—including two homers.
Mike Tarsi started for the ’Fish and threw six strong innings, but did not factor in the decision. The Danbury native allowed two runs on eight hits, struck out three and walked just one batter. Five relievers followed Tarsi with Kyle Zaleski (3-2) npicking up the victory after tossing a scoreless 13th inning.
Jason Lane started for Sugar Land and worked six frames, allowing four runs on six hits, issuing two walks and striking out. Kelvin Villa (0-3) was tagged with the loss.
After the contest, the two teams flew back to Texas where they will finish out the first half of the season with a four-game set starting tonight. The Bluefish will send right-hander Jonah Bayliss to the mound (2-4, 4.53 ERA), where he will be opposed by right-hander Michael Nix (1-7, 7.75). First pitch is slated for 8:05 p.m. ET. After Sunday’s game there will be a four-day All-Star Break. The 2012 All-Star Game will be held on Wed., July 11, at Campbell’s Field in Camden, NJ. Fan voting concluded yesterday, and the All-Star teams will be announced later today.
