George "the Animal" Steele gets into it with Randy "Macho Man" Savage. "Miss Elizabeth" looks on.
NORWICH - Nobody can accuse Connecticut fans of not liking their “rassling.” First, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) honcho Linda McMahon wins the Republican nod and is running for governor. And on Thursday night, rassling legend George “The Animal” Steele will make a personal appearance at Dodd Stadium on when the Tigers take on the Tri-City ValleyCats. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Steele will be on hand to sign autographs and meet fans before and during the game.

“The Animal,” with his signature scowl (and hairy back) came from a stable of personalities that included Chief Jay Strongbow, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Fred Blassie, Lou Albano (who became an MTV star after appearing in Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Want To Have Fun video), Bruno Sammartino, Randy “Macho Man” Savage and his lovely manager, Miss Elizabeth. Together, they were part of pro rassling’s rise to glory throughout the 1970s and ’80s, and helped create an empire for the McMahons and Stamford-based World Wresting Entertainment (then known as WWF, the World Wrestling Federation). As a result, George “The Animal” Steele because a household name, and like many of his colleagues, extended his stage career beyond the ring into a screen career, appearing alongside Hollywood legends in film projects over the last 20 years.

Mickey O’Rourke would be proud.
