INDIANAPOLIS – The Connecticut Sun ended a three-game losing streak to stop the Indiana Fever, 77-68, before an announced crowd of 10,076 that included several thousand phantom fans for a rare weekday afternoon contest at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Wednesday. The Sun victory snapped a seven-game home-court winning streak for the Fever.

Sandrine Gruda led the Connecticut effort with 21 points followed by Tina Charles with 14 points and six rebounds. Tan White chipped in with 10 vs. her former teammates.

Tamika Catchings led Indiana with 22 points, nine rebounds and four steals, while former Sun star Katie Douglas added 13 points, with Ebony Hoffman and Briann January scoring 11 points each for the Fever.

The Fever led by nine points in the first quarter and by six with 2:12 left in the third, but then went nearly nine minutes without a field goal as Connecticut took off on a 15-2 run.

A three-pointer from the right corner by Douglas pulled the Fever within 68-66 with 1:57 left, but the Sun won the game from the charity stripe, sinking seven of eight free throws down the stretch.

The Sun shot 43.3 percent from the floor, holding Indiana to a season-worst 32.4 percent (22-for-68).

With the win, the Sun improve to 11-8 and move within a half game of third-place Indiana (11-7) in the Eastern Conference race. Connecticut now must prepare for what looms as the biggest game of the season to date when the Sun host Atlanta, which leads Washington by a half game but in a statistical abnormality is technically .006 behind the Mystics. Tip-off on Saturday will be at 7 p.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
